When I try capturing the volume of a form I tend to lean on tone as a bit of a crutch, at the expense of truly understanding the object, the above are no exception. So later they day I tried simplifying things:

Ok I'm no expert at drawing skulls but have handled many as a kid and as a student. You need to keep ay it you'revgetting there. Hey I havr a suggestion, play lots of plants vs zombies for ... erm ..perspective ....
