With gesture drawings, especially those done on a wobbly tube carriage while standing up, I'm lucky if I capture the essence of the pose. Proportions, line of action and weight are my primary concerns. I think that for a gesture drawings to be a success it doesn't have to literally "look like" the subject (like a conventional portrairt might) so much as it must feel true to my observation of the subject.
